Shanda Hensel is accused of stealing $50k from elderly woman

Hensel, an Oklahoma City Bank worker, struck up a mock friendship with an elderly woman who did not have a family. She convinced the woman to only tank with her and put a notice on the woman’s account that read, “DO NOT MAIL, DO NOT CALL.” Hensel then started to drain the woman’s account over a two year period.

The woman stopped receiving bank statements, which would have shown the theft, and Hensel informed her the bank was lagging because of the pandemic. When the woman called the bank when Hensel was on vacation, another employee informed her of the true status of the account. Upon the bank’s investigation, Hensel was immediately fired from the bank and the elderly woman was refunded by the bank for the amount stolen.

The same day she was fired, Hensel bought plane tickets headed first to Texas then to Seattle. She was also found to have been charged with passing a fake check in 2018.
