Jesse Lee McCurley arrested after explosion injures several officers

Police were responding to a domestic battery call in Atkins when they saw smoke and a man who began shooting at them. The man, McCurley, came outside and was taken into custody. As this happened, there was an explosion inside the residence.

Several officers were concussed and were cut by shrapnel, though the injuries were describes as minor. They were treated by medics, and one was transferred to a nearby hospital. McCurly, 66, was booked into the Pope County jail. He is facing charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated assault and arson.
