Mitchell Salito arrested after assaulting and attempting to drown a child

Johnson County deputies were called to Hunt for assistance with Salito who was suffering from a mental crisis. When the police arrived, they found a 9-year-old boy who was assaulted. The boy had serious injuries and claimed a man attacked and tried to drown him.

The child’s injuries corroborated his story and he was able to trick Salito into stopping by playing dead. Salito was unknown to his victim. The deputies soon were called regarding Salito, who matched the description given. He was identified and charge with 1st Degree Battery, Kidnapping, 1st Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and a misdemeanor FTA warrant.

Later in the day, an additional incident came to light which added 2nd Degree Assault and Disorderly Conduct to the charges against him. A judge determined that Salito would have no bail.
