Michael Davis takes stand after shooting youth

Davis, a former Lonoke County deputy, was charged with manslaughter after he shot Hunter Brittain, 17. In the third day of his trial, Davis took the stand. The shooting took place last June in the early hours of the morning.

A friend of Brittain’s claimed he spent several hours working on his truck before he taking it on a test drive at 3 a.m. When he was south of Cabot, he was pulled over by Davis. The truck started rolling backwards and Brittain jumped out to reach for a bottle in the back of his truck and was shot. There is a claim that Brittain was grabbing a bottle of antifreeze to put behind a wheel because his truck refusing to shift into park.

Brittain’s death was determined to have been caused by gunshot wounds to the arm and neck. Davis claims that he warned Brittain prior to the shooting; although, two other witnesses claim they did not hear any. If convicted, Davis could face up to 10 years in prison.
