Kyle Joseph Vannortwick convicted of murdering his brother Adam

Kyle, 36, was found guilty of assaulting his brother and stabbing him to death with a BBQ knife in 2018. Kyle claimed his brother had attacked him and in defense the brother was pushed onto a kitchen table where the knife was lying and was stabbed three times. Adam died of blood loss after the stabs, one in the head, the second in the neck, and the third in the chest.

The case was originally in the District Court in Muskogee County, but after the ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma, the case was dismissed because the murder occurred in the Muskcogee (Creek) Reservation. Kyle is a member of a federally recognized Indian Tribe.

It was refiled in federal court where a trail was started mid-August. The jury verdict came down earlier this week convicting Kyle of second degree murder. He is facing up to like in prison/
