Eugene Ray arrested illegally selling police vehicles

Ray, 46, a former police lieutenant in Pine Bluff, was caught illegally selling police vehicles. The vehicles in question were older patrol units taken out of service and were planned to be auctioned. The estimated value loss due to the theft was over $20,000.

There were a total of 30 such vehicles sold by Ray, and they were sold for amounts ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. The sales took place between May and July 2021. Ray retired at the end of July.

Arkansas State Police was called to investigate the allegations of the sold vehicles by the Jefferson Country Prosecuting Attorney. The investigation determined Ray was responsible and, further, had been providing titles signed by him for the vehicles. Ray was out of jail within 30 minutes of his booking on a cash bond.
